When an Audio Enhancement device fails under warranty, it goes back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement through a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). VSC handles the paperwork and the field work, but several steps are outside anyone's control at the school, so it helps to know how the process runs.
1️⃣ How long is my equipment covered?
| Coverage | Equipment (current AE products) |
|---|---|
| 7 years | MS-700, MS-720 and MS-775 amplifiers · XD Teacher Mic (STM-24) · XD Student Mic (SHH-24) · XD Receiver (SRC-24) · ceiling, wall and 70 V speakers |
| 5 years | EPIC head-end appliance and hard drives · BEAM and BEAM Pro · XD Solo · SAFE Badge and SAFE Receiver · EPIC Strobe · MS-600 and older XD mics/receivers (XD-0701, SHH-14, K-SRC14) |
| 3 years | EduCam360 and EduCamPTZ cameras · Interactive Touch Controller (ITC) · InfoView displays · EPIC Kiosk · CZA-1300 paging interface · Mic360 |
| 1 year | CLAUDIA · NVRs · Alert Notification Button · classroom wall box · UPS · adapters · EPIC Kiosk microphone · AE labor and install |
| 90 days | Lithium-ion and AA NiMH batteries supplied by AE · SD and microSD cards |
| Other brands | The other manufacturer's warranty or AE's 1-year warranty, whichever is longer |
Coverage runs from the original purchase. A repaired or replacement unit doesn't restart the warranty clock.
2️⃣ What the warranty does and doesn't cover
3️⃣ The steps a repair goes through
| # | Step | Who |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Report the problem | School › VSC. Tell us the room, the device and what's happening. |
| 2 | Troubleshoot and confirm | VSC, remotely or on site. Many "failed" devices turn out to be a dead battery, an unlinked mic or a network port, and are fixed that day. |
| 3 | Open the RMA | VSC › AE, with the model and serial number. |
| 4 | Ship it back | VSC packs and ships the unit to AE. |
| 5 | Repair or replace | AE evaluates the unit and repairs it or sends a new or refurbished one. |
| 6 | Return shipping | AE › VSC. |
| 7 | Reinstall and set up | VSC schedules a Technician, installs the unit and restores its EPIC settings (see QR-AE-012), then tests the room. |
4️⃣ Why the timeline matters
- Every step is a hand-off. Shipping both ways, AE's repair queue and getting a Technician back to the building each add time. The clock starts when VSC hears about the problem, not when it began.
- Report problems right away. A mic that has "acted up for weeks" is weeks further from being fixed. Teachers can tell the front office or the building tech, who tells VSC.
- Have the details ready. Room number, device, what you see (lights, error, no sound) and when it started. A serial number saves a trip.
- Plan for a gap. For critical spaces (front office, gym, rooms that use SAFE), ask VSC about keeping a spare on the shelf so a room isn't down while a unit is away.
- Check the warranty date. Repairs outside the warranty period are billable, and older models may not be repairable.
