Disclaimer & Terms of Use

Applies to every article, Quick Reference PDF, brochure and file in the VSC Knowledgebase (kb.vsci.com). Last updated October 9, 2026.

⚠️

In short: these guides are free reference material from VSC. They are reviewed, but they can be wrong or out of date. The manufacturer's documentation always takes priority, safety and emergency systems should only be changed by trained, authorized people, and you use everything here at your own risk.

📘 What this Knowledgebase is

The VSC Knowledgebase is a free reference that VSC, Inc. ("VSC") provides to the schools and districts we serve and to our own staff. It collects field-tested how-to guides, Quick Reference PDFs, and product information for the audio-visual, intercom, paging and safety systems VSC installs and supports.

It is a convenience, not a contract. Nothing here creates a service agreement, warranty, maintenance obligation or any other commitment from VSC. Work VSC performs for you is covered only by your signed proposal, contract or purchase order with VSC.

🤖 How articles are written

  • Some articles are drafted with the help of AI tools. Every article is reviewed and corrected by VSC staff who work with the equipment before it is published, and each guide names who wrote it and the manufacturer documents it was checked against.
  • Review reduces errors; it does not eliminate them. Articles can contain mistakes, omissions or steps that don't match your exact equipment, firmware or configuration.
  • Products, firmware, software screens, prices and specifications change, often without notice. An article reflects what VSC knew on its revision date (shown at the top of each guide and in the PDF footer).

🧭 Manufacturer documentation comes first

These guides do not replace the manufacturer's installation manuals, admin guides, release notes, safety instructions or training. If anything here conflicts with the manufacturer's current documentation, follow the manufacturer and let us know so we can fix the article. Items marked "VSC note", "VSC practice" or "VSC recommendation" are VSC's field guidance, not statements by the manufacturer.

⚠️ Safety-critical and life-safety systems

Many articles cover systems schools rely on in an emergency: paging, intercom, lockdown and panic alerts, strobes, crisis-alert integrations and connections to fire, access-control or security systems. Changing these systems carries real risk.

  • Work on them should be done only by trained, authorized personnel (manufacturer-certified where the manufacturer requires it), with permission from the school or district.
  • Coordinate with school administration before any test and schedule changes outside instructional time whenever possible.
  • After any change, test every affected function (paging, intercom, bells, alerts, strobes and third-party integrations) and confirm the system has returned to normal.
  • Follow all applicable electrical and building codes, the requirements of your Authority Having Jurisdiction, and lock-out/power-down procedures. Never modify a fire alarm or other code-required system except as permitted by its listing and by a licensed professional.
  • Nothing here is a substitute for a school's emergency plan, emergency-response training or contacting 911.

🛡️ Use at your own risk

All content is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. You are responsible for deciding whether a procedure is appropriate for your site and for any action you take based on it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, VSC, its owners, employees and contractors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, including system downtime, lost data, equipment damage, missed or false alerts, voided manufacturer warranties, or personal injury, arising from the use of, or inability to use, anything in this Knowledgebase. Where liability cannot be fully excluded, it is limited to the extent the law allows.

Following an article does not keep a manufacturer warranty in force. Manufacturer warranties are governed only by the manufacturer's own terms; firmware changes, wiring changes or unsupported configurations may affect them. If you're unsure, contact VSC or the manufacturer before you start.

📄 Brochures, comparisons and legislation

  • Brochures, flyers and product descriptions come from or summarize manufacturer material. Features, availability and specifications are the manufacturer's and may change. Confirm details with VSC before purchasing or specifying.
  • Product comparisons are VSC's summary of information available to us on the stated date. They are not a guarantee of any product's performance and may not reflect the latest versions of the products compared.
  • Summaries of laws and bills (for example, Alyssa's Law) are general information only, may be out of date, and are not legal advice. Districts should confirm compliance requirements with their own counsel or the responsible agency.

🔐 Credentials and site information

Never post your own credentials, IP addresses or system details in a comment, ticket or email. Send them to VSC only through a secure method we provide.
