Changing Emergency Contacts in EPIC from 1.8 to 2.5+ Style with 2.5+ Installed
- Log into EPIC.
- Go to Settings on the left side.
- Go to Events at the top.
- Go to Advanced.

- Drop down the selection menu
- Select your event, in this example we are editing SAFE Alert notifications

- Find the message type you are trying to remove emails (sendEmail) or phone numbers (sendSms) from
- Click on the Edit Pencil icon
- Select all of the recipients and delete them
- Click Update Action

- Return to the new regular Event Builder by click Events at the top of the page
- To create new Contact lists click on Contacts

- Click on Add Contact
- Fill out the information
- Select the Contact Group they apply to. This will matter later. You will choose by this group what notifications you want sent to them. For example a SAFE Alert might go to a principal, but a Lockdown would go to the District Security Officer or Superintendent.
- School - Should be Principals and Building level administration
- District - Should be neighboring building principals (if not using District View), SRO's, Superintendents, Operations, etc.
- Support - Should be personnel who are familiar with the backend system of EPIC, this group is typically applied to system monitoring events in case devices go offline.
- Click Add Contact
- Then go back to the Event Builder (I forgot to put a 5 on the image, but the Arrow to the left of Contacts will take you back, or clicking on Events at the top again.

- Click on the Event you want to add Contact notification to. In this example I'm adding to regular SAFE Alert.
- SAFE Alert is a paired SAFE Alert Emergency. The person pressed both sides of their microphone or a SAFE button was pressed.
- SAFE Alert - non-paired is when someone presses both sides of their microphone when not in their own room, or both sides of a badge were pressed. This would initiate a triangulation on the front office kiosk.

- Scroll down and drop down the menu for (This image) "Immediate Actions" or (Alternate Event Image) "Then these action will happen"
- Select Messages from the drop down

Alternate Event Image:

- Once the new action is populated select the group type this message will go to. In this example anytime a regular SAFE Alert is triggered anyone that was added as the School level contact will receive this email
- In Email Subject you can change this if you wish, personally I think the default is pretty good
- Same as above feel free to change, take note of the variables that can used as well.
- Variables are fairly self explanatory
- {schoolName} - Name of the school. In this example, this is Brad's DEMO Cart so it's VSC High School
- {roomName} - Name of the room - This would tie back to the room name set in the Map Setup, not Display Name on Map Setup, Room Name.
- {eventName} - Name of the event, in this example SAFE Alert
- {deviceName} - Name of device - Name that is set in Devices, common example for a MS700 in room 105 at VSC HS would be "VHS-105-MS700"
- {mapName} - This would be the name of the map, we typically make this the same name as the building, but if it's multiple floors it may be 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, etc or if it's large areas and multiple sections they could have a separate map as well.
- {dateTimeOfEvent} - Exactly as it says, Date and Time the event was triggered.
- {emailActionUrl} - This would only be for Safer Alert I believe, the idea would be if a SAFE Alert is initiated, the URL would direct you to EPIC with an option to Escalate to a Lockdown, or if it's not a SAFE Alert it would just take you to EPIC to view what's happening.
- {alertName} - I'll be honest I can't imagine why this would be different than {eventName} other than if it's for development purposes.
- Select when the action should execute, Start with previous will execute the event the same time as the one above it.
- Not pictured, scroll to the top and click the green SAVE button in the top right.
- If EPIC does not let you save and pops up saying you have missing fields or invalid data, you should double check your entries that are highlighted with a red box around them, additionally, it's possible the entries are in there by default and are missing values in which case you can delete those entries and try saving again.
