EPIC plays a short tone before an announcement. The default is a single monotone beep called beep.wav. There are three parts to changing it: upload the new file, select it as the SIP Tone, then set your devices to use the tone from EPIC.

1️⃣ Open the school's EPIC server

Browse to the school's EPIC server (usually an IP address) and log in as an Administrator.

2️⃣ Upload the new tone (Settings › Audio)

  1. Click Settings on the left, then the Audio tab at the top.
  2. Click Add in the top right.
  3. Name the file (e.g. new tone).
  4. Audio Source: choose File to upload from your computer. (Record lets you record live, which is more useful for bell notifications.)
  5. Choose the file. Use a .wav for the best sound. AE says EPIC accepts .wav or .mp3 and converts it automatically.
  6. Audio Type: select Sip, then click Add.

Settings › Audio › Add. Set Audio Source to File and Audio Type to Sip.

Settings › Audio › Add. Set Audio Source to File and Audio Type to Sip.

3️⃣ Select it as the SIP Tone

  1. Go to System Settings › SIP › Asterisk Basic.
  2. Change the SIP Tone drop-down to the file you just uploaded.
  3. Click Save. EPIC returns you to the Home screen with the building map.

System Settings › SIP › Asterisk Basic, with the SIP Tone drop-down. Site-specific secrets are redacted.

💡

On EPIC older than 3.2.2? AE fixed a bug in 3.2.2 where the SIP Tone setting could revert after saving. Re-open Asterisk Basic and confirm your selection stuck. Some SIP devices need No Tone to allow two-way intercom calls.

4️⃣ Set devices to play the tone from EPIC

  1. Go back to Settings › Configure.
  2. Select a device type installed at the school (MS-700, MS-500, MS-300, etc.).
  3. Under Intercom and Paging, set Beep on Call Answer to From EPIC.
  4. Click Save and Push Settings to push to all devices of that type.
  5. Repeat for every device type at the school. Pushing MS-500 settings does not update MS-500A or MS-300 devices.

Settings › Configure. Pick the device template, then set Beep on Call Answer.

Settings › Configure. Pick the device template, then set Beep on Call Answer.

📝

Why From EPIC? AE's manual says Beep on Call Answer defaults to From Device, which plays the device's own beep. From EPIC turns that off so the SIP Tone you selected plays instead.

💡

Not sure which device types a school has? Go to Settings › Update and click through the tabs. If a tab lists devices, the school has that type. If it says No data available in table, skip it.
